This role supports capacity-building for media practitioners to promote gender-responsive journalism, contributing to social change and the achievement of SDGs.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to strengthen the capacity of media practitioners in Papua New Guinea to report ethically and effectively on gender equality, women's rights, and gender-based violence. The consultant will design and facilitate workshops in Port Moresby and Goroka, developing practical tools and guidance. The role supports the "Soim Wokabout" programme by enhancing media's ability to challenge harmful stereotypes, promote accurate reporting, and amplify the voices of women and girls, thereby contributing to reduced GBV and greater gender equality.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a desk review and stakeholder consultations to identify capacity gaps in media reporting on gender issues in PNG. They will develop comprehensive workshop materials, including training modules, agendas, facilitation notes, and assessment tools for two workshops. The consultant will also support coordination with UN Women and partners for workshop logistics. Key responsibilities include facilitating the workshops in Port Moresby and Goroka, guiding participants on ethical and survivor-centred reporting, and documenting outcomes. Finally, the consultant will prepare a final report with findings, lessons learned, and recommendations for future media engagement on gender-responsive journalism.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of professional experience in journalism, media, communications, or gender equality. Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating capacity-building workshops for media professionals is essential. Experience in Papua New Guinea and working on gender-based violence or women's rights issues is highly desirable.
