This role, based in Apia, Samoa, supports the MCO's communication and advocacy strategies to enhance UN Women's visibility and standing with partners, media, and the public. The Analyst collaborates with program teams, UN agencies, government, and civil society.
Job Purpose
The Communications Analyst assists in planning and implementing UN Women's communication and advocacy strategies within the Fiji Multi-Country Office, specifically for Samoa. The role aims to increase the visibility and standing of UN Women among partners, media, and the public. This involves supporting communication strategies, integrating them into project proposals, monitoring media, creating social media content, and assisting with campaign launches. The Analyst also contributes to developing and disseminating advocacy materials, managing media relations, building partnerships, and maintaining the MCO's online presence and knowledge management systems.
Responsibilities
The Communications Analyst is responsible for supporting the implementation of UN Women's communication and advocacy strategies and plans, ensuring a gender perspective. This includes integrating communication strategies into project proposals, monitoring and analyzing print and social media, and creating/scheduling social media content. The role involves drafting briefing materials and press releases, identifying story ideas, promoting corporate advocacy materials, and coordinating the dissemination of publications and audio-visual materials. Additionally, the Analyst will support media relations by maintaining media lists, responding to inquiries, and assisting with press events. Building and maintaining partnerships with civil society, governments, and donors to enhance visibility is also a key duty. The role further supports the MCO's online presence and knowledge management by coordinating website content, social media accounts, and documenting communication activities and lessons learned.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of progressively responsible work experience (with a Master's degree) or three years (with a Bachelor's degree) in public relations, communications, or advocacy is required. Experience in social media management and digital content creation is essential. Experience drafting communication materials, using content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe), handling web-based management systems, and familiarity with ERP systems like Oracle Cloud are desirable. UN system experience is an asset.
