Job Purpose
The Programme Specialist, Gender Statistics, is responsible for providing technical advice and strategic programmatic and operational management for the 'Women Count Project' in Palestine. This role involves ensuring effective project implementation, providing technical assistance and capacity development to partners, and leading resource mobilization, knowledge management, and communication efforts. The specialist will work under the supervision of the Deputy Special Representative and the Regional Gender Statistics Specialist, collaborating closely with the programme team, government officials, donors, and civil society to achieve UN Women's mandate in gender equality and women's empowerment through improved gender statistics.
Responsibilities
The Programme Specialist will design and develop programme strategies in Gender Statistics, formulating project proposals and ensuring alignment with international standards. They will manage the implementation of the 'Women Count Project,' including work plans, budgets, and partner reports, and coordinate activities with national statistical bodies and humanitarian actors. The role involves managing technical assistance and capacity development for partners on gender statistics, methodologies, and data analysis, supporting the collection and use of disaggregated data. Furthermore, the specialist will oversee project monitoring and reporting, manage financial and human resources, and develop partnerships for resource mobilization. They will also contribute to inter-agency coordination on gender statistics and lead advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts related to the project.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating development projects is required. Experience in statistics is essential, with experience in Gender Statistics being desirable. Proficiency in computer and office software packages, including spreadsheet and database management, is necessary. Experience with statistical software, leading staff, UN system, and ERP systems is desirable.
