Job Purpose
The National Consultant - EVAWG Assistant (retainer) will provide essential technical, administrative, and logistical support to UN Women's Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) team in Kenya. This role is critical for the effective development and implementation of EVAWG programmes, contributing to Kenya's Vision 2030 and the SDGs. The consultant will assist in strengthening projects, supporting partner relationships, monitoring programme implementation, contributing to reporting, and facilitating inter-agency coordination to combat gender-based violence and promote gender equality.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide technical assistance and capacity development to project partners, contributing to the development and implementation of EVAWG initiatives and tools. Responsibilities include supporting relationships with national partners, identifying capacity building needs, and coordinating technical assistance. The role involves monitoring programme/project implementation and finances, conducting field missions, and contributing to high-quality, results-based reports. Additionally, the consultant will support partnership development, resource mobilization strategies, and donor engagement. A key function is contributing to inter-agency coordination on EVAWG, representing the programme in meetings and ensuring alignment with other partners. The consultant will also provide administrative and logistical support for programme formulation, management, financial oversight, and knowledge management, including audits and advocacy activities.
Work Experience
Requires at least 6 years of progressively responsible work experience at national or international levels in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on development projects. Technical experience in Ending Violence Against Women and Girls is essential. Experience in administrative or programme management/support, working with government agencies/donors, and within the UN system or with its software (Quantum/PRISM) is desirable.
