UN Women in Asia and the Pacific advances gender equality and women's empowerment through normative, programmatic, and advocacy initiatives. The Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) Unit focuses on women's participation and leadership in the economy. This role supports the expanding WEE portfolio by enhancing the visibility, influence, and impact of its initiatives through strategic communications, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
Job Purpose
The Communications, Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist provides strategic leadership for communications, advocacy, digital engagement, and stakeholder outreach across UN Women's Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio in Asia and the Pacific. Reporting to the Regional WEE Lead, the incumbent serves as the focal point for WEE communications, collaborating with regional and headquarters teams, country offices, and external partners. The role aims to strengthen the visibility, influence, and impact of WEE programmes, advocacy initiatives, and partnerships, ensuring coherent narratives and thought leadership on gender equality and women's economic empowerment issues.
Responsibilities
The Specialist will lead the WEE communications strategy and workplan, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. This includes providing strategic advice to WEE leadership, ensuring quality assurance of communication products, and accelerating digital transformation using AI-powered workflows. Key duties involve developing social media and digital advocacy strategies, directing WEE web platforms, and strategically positioning the WEE portfolio across the region. The role also involves serving as a liaison with the ROAP Communications unit, providing guidance to Country Offices, and coordinating regional communications meetings. Furthermore, the Specialist will lead communication, advocacy, and partnership support for key WEE programmes, cultivate strategic partnerships with media and private sector entities, and provide communications leadership for donor-funded projects. Developing impactful campaigns, establishing measurement approaches for WEE impacts, and ensuring donor visibility are also critical responsibilities. The incumbent will monitor communications performance, promote knowledge sharing, and perform other duties as assigned, while providing technical supervision to communications personnel.
Work Experience
Requires at least 7 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, advocacy, public information, digital communications, media relations, or stakeholder engagement. Demonstrated experience advising senior leadership and leading initiatives at regional or international levels is essential. Experience with international organizations, the UN system, or private sector partners, as well as applying AI in communications, is desirable.
