This role supports the "Ending Violence Against Women and Girls / EVAWG - Pacific Partnership" programme, specifically addressing the aftermath of a 7.3 magnitude earthquake in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support gender-responsive reconstruction efforts in Port Vila following a major earthquake. The role will contribute to a gender-responsive safety and access audit of the Port Vila market and Central Business District (CBD). The purpose is to ensure that reconstruction efforts embed safety, inclusion, and resilience into public infrastructure design and management, addressing pre-existing inequalities and preventing increased exposure to violence and harassment for women and girls. The audit will identify risks and opportunities for mitigation, leading to a practical action plan for gender-responsive reconstruction.
Responsibilities
The National Assistant Consultant will support the lead consultant in conducting a gender-responsive safety and access audit of the Port Vila market and CBD. Key responsibilities include supporting desk reviews of relevant documents, adapting audit frameworks and tools, identifying and mapping stakeholders, and developing a stakeholder engagement plan. The role involves assisting in logistical planning for data collection, leading or co-facilitating key informant interviews and focus group discussions, conducting site visits and observational assessments, and managing raw data. The consultant will contribute to the analysis of preliminary findings, drafting sections of the audit report, and supporting stakeholder validation workshops. Additionally, the role includes contributing to the finalization of the Gender Audit Report and Action Plan, and supporting the dissemination of findings.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 5 years (with Master's) or 7 years (with Bachelor's) of experience in gender equality, ending violence against women, social research, or related fields. Experience conducting qualitative research in Vanuatu or the Pacific is needed. Experience with gender audits, safety assessments, or urban planning is advantageous. Familiarity with survivor-centered principles and knowledge of the Port Vila urban context are strongly preferred.
