UN Women Myanmar Country Office (MCO) operates in a challenging environment, delivering across the humanitarian-development nexus. The MCO focuses on essential life-saving protection, community resilience, and economic empowerment for women. Aligned with the UN Transitional Country Framework (UNTCF) 2024-26, UN Women leads on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) within the UN Country Team (UNCT), co-chairing key inter-agency mechanisms.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to strengthen UN Women Myanmar's normative coordination mandate and support the development of the MCO's strategic planning processes. The role will provide technical assistance for integrating GEWE commitments into the UN-TCF and other UN planning frameworks. It involves supporting inter-agency GEWE mechanisms, facilitating capacity development, and ensuring gender mainstreaming across UN planning and programming efforts. The consultant will contribute to system-wide coherence on GEWE and enhance UN Women's strategic positioning and resource mobilization.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic planning support to the Myanmar Country Office, developing planning instruments like strategic notes and work plans. Offer technical assistance for joint inter-agency UN planning processes, including gender mainstreaming in the UNTCF, joint workplans, M&E frameworks, and joint programmes. Coordinate the UNCT Gender Theme Group and other inter-agency mechanisms, providing guidance on the Gender Equality Marker. Facilitate meaningful engagement of Women’s Civil Society Organizations (W-CSOs) and coordinate gender coordination bodies. Support capacity development on gender-responsive M&E and knowledge management, including disseminating good practices. Assist in identifying and implementing strategic partnerships and resource mobilization efforts, drafting briefing packages and concept notes.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project/programme development, strategic planning, and coordination support. Demonstrated experience in monitoring, reporting, knowledge management, and applying gender equality principles is essential. Experience in inter-agency coordination for GEWE, ideally within conflict-affected settings or the Asia-Pacific region, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UN agencies and Results-Based Management (RBM) is advantageous.
