UN Women Afghanistan is addressing one of the world's most complex humanitarian crises, where Afghan women and girls face unique vulnerabilities due to conflict, poverty, and natural disasters. The country office has been operational for two decades, focusing on integrated programming, women's movement building, policy and research, economic resilience, and humanitarian response. This role supports the country office's need for timely, results-focused reporting to donors.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to enhance the quality and impact of UN Women Afghanistan's reporting and communication materials. The International Consultant - Editor will be responsible for copy-editing, synthesizing, and rewriting reports, knowledge products, and other communications to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to UN Women's standards and results-based reporting principles. The role is crucial for maintaining strong donor relations and effectively disseminating program achievements and insights to various audiences, supporting the overall mission of gender equality and women's empowerment in a challenging context.
Responsibilities
The International Consultant - Editor will be responsible for reviewing and revising UN Women reports to ensure grammatical correctness, appropriate terminology, and consistency with previous submissions. A key duty is strengthening results-based reporting by ensuring activities are linked to clear results statements and aligned with logic models. The consultant will apply consistent style and formatting, standardize fonts, and verify all references and footnotes. They will also conduct thorough reviews of annexes and refine tables of contents and acronym lists. Additionally, the role involves copy-editing, synthesizing information from multiple sources into coherent narratives, and recasting content into concise, accessible formats. The consultant will provide actionable feedback to UN Women teams to improve reporting quality and adherence to standards.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressive editorial experience is required. Candidates must possess strong knowledge of gender equality and women's human rights, with proven ability to integrate these perspectives into reporting. Expertise in results-based reporting (RBM), including logic models and donor requirements, is essential. Prior experience with UN Women is desirable, as is knowledge of Afghanistan's socio-cultural and political context regarding women's rights.
