UN Women's Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) aims to advance gender-transformative humanitarian action by ensuring gender data informs coordination, programming, and accountability. A Regional Network of Gender Data Analysts and Emergency Statisticians is being established as a technical surge mechanism to support rapid, high-quality data production and analysis in emergencies, ensuring methodological rigor and timely insights.
Job Purpose
This role supports UN Women's humanitarian efforts in the Arab States by providing specialized statistical and analytical support for sex-disaggregated and gender data in emergency contexts. The purpose is to ensure that gender data informs coordination, programming, resource mobilization, and accountability throughout the humanitarian programming cycle. By closing data gaps, strengthening analytical capacity, and ensuring the needs of women and girls are captured, the role contributes to evidence-based humanitarian action and gender accountability, prioritizing women's and girls' realities in crisis decision-making.
Responsibilities
Provide specialized statistical and analytical support for sex-disaggregated and gender data in emergency contexts. Support rapid data generation and analysis during emergency onset and escalation phases. Strengthen data quality, analytical rigor, documentation, and cross-country comparability. Assist Country Offices in producing periodic gender data analytical updates, including quarterly syntheses of sex-disaggregated and gender data produced under the SOP framework, and gender analysis emerging from programme implementation, monitoring, and humanitarian coordination mechanisms. Enhance evidence-based humanitarian action and gender accountability across the response architecture.
Work Experience
Requires at least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in gender data in emergency contexts or data in emergencies. Experience working within the UN system at a global level or in multiple geographic regions is also required.
Skills
Advanced expertise in gender data analysis, sex-disaggregated data systems, and statistical methods in emergency/fragile contexts. Experience producing rapid analytical products for humanitarian programming. Ability to translate complex data into actionable gender insights. Experience applying standardized indicators, rapid assessment methodologies, and gender analysis frameworks in crisis settings. Capacity for independent work under deadlines and coordination across multiple contexts.
