Organizational Context

UN Women's Asia-Pacific Regional Office (ROAP) in Bangkok implements the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative to improve gender statistics and data use for the 2030 Agenda. This role supports regional and country-level activities focused on SDG monitoring, data quality, and accessibility, contributing to evidence-based policy and programming for gender equality.

Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to provide crucial technical support for the production, analysis, and research of gender statistics within the Asia-Pacific region. The role will contribute to the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative by supporting the implementation of gender and environment surveys, building capacity of national statisticians, and conducting data analysis. The consultant will play a key role in generating estimates, developing reports and knowledge products, and disseminating data to strengthen the demand and use of gender statistics for policy and programming, ultimately advancing gender equality and women's empowerment.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support for the implementation of Gender and Environment Surveys, including design coordination and training of enumerators. Lead data analysis to generate survey indicators' estimates and build capacity of national statisticians. Assist in developing and disseminating gender and environment survey reports and related publications. Conduct data analysis, integration, and generate visualizations for various topics covered by the Women Count programme. Contribute to regional and country data reports and briefs, and support the production process of publications and knowledge products. Draft background documents for data-related events and support consultations with stakeholders. Provide data-related support to UN Women Country Offices and liaise with internal teams. Support the Sub-group on Gender Statistics Training (SGGST) by acting as secretariat, coordinating meetings, and updating training materials. Facilitate gender statistics training sessions at regional and country levels.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in microdata analysis, preferably from demographic and health surveys or similar individual-level surveys for gender analysis. Experience supporting the implementation of complex household surveys and calculating gender indicators is essential. Professional experience supporting national governments, particularly statistical offices in the Asia-Pacific region, on gender statistics production and use is required. Experience in delivering technical trainings and a proven track record of analytical publications are necessary. Proficiency in STATA is essential; R and Python skills are desirable.
