Job Purpose
This role supports the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific's Women's Economic Empowerment team, specifically contributing to the Gender Action Lab (GAL) and the broader Women in the World of Work (WWW) pillar. The consultant will assist in implementing GAL initiatives, which aim to foster private sector innovations and actions for gender equality. The position supports research, multi-stakeholder events, and programming designed to advance women's full and equitable participation and leadership in the workforce, aligning with UN Women's strategic goals and the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs).
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide technical support for the Gender Action Lab (GAL) program design, planning, and implementation, including drafting key documents and coordinating between regional and country levels. Responsibilities include substantive support for the 2026 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards, such as reviewing applications and coordinating the regional ceremony. The role also involves supporting the WEPs Asia-Pacific Secretariat by developing outreach materials and ensuring quality assurance. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to communications and knowledge production by conducting research, writing reports, and developing strategic communication materials for GAL and WWW initiatives. Support will be provided for resource mobilization, partnership building with private sector stakeholders, and the planning and management of multi-stakeholder events. Monitoring and reporting on GAL activities, and coordinating the WEE Asia-Pacific Community of Practice are also key duties.
Work Experience
Requires at least one year of relevant experience in programme support for international development projects, particularly in gender and women's economic empowerment. Strong knowledge of women's economic empowerment within the private sector context is essential. Experience in coordinating regional events, developing communications assets for a private sector audience, and working in the Asia-Pacific region are assets. Familiarity with UN Women, other UN agencies, international donors, and the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) is also desirable.
Skills
Strong understanding of women's economic empowerment and private sector action for gender equality. Knowledge of Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written English for analytical reports and briefs. Proficiency in MS Office applications and basic design tools (e.g., Canva). Strong interpersonal skills for inclusive and collaborative work. Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
