Organizational Context
UN Women's Central Asian Alliance to End Gender-Based Violence (GBV), managed by the UN Women Central Asia Liaison Office, is a regional platform uniting state and non-state actors to combat GBV. Established under the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, it focuses on coordinated, gender-transformative action, supporting international commitments and addressing regional GBV gaps. The Alliance aims to advocate for gender equality, mobilize civil society, foster policy dialogue, and enhance knowledge sharing.
Job Purpose
The Communications Associate supports the formulation and implementation of communication and advocacy strategies for the Central Asian Alliance to End GBV and the UN Women Central Asia Liaison Office. This role aims to increase the visibility and standing of these entities among partners, media, and the public. The Associate will contribute to developing and executing communication plans, creating advocacy materials, managing social media presence, and supporting media relations to effectively communicate the Alliance's objectives and achievements in preventing and responding to GBV across Central Asia.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement communication and advocacy strategies for the Central Asian Alliance to End GBV and UN Women Central Asia Liaison Office. Support advocacy efforts by organizing events like roundtable discussions and press conferences, and drafting press releases and briefing materials. Create compelling content for online and print publications, including articles and social media campaigns, identifying key stories and achievements. Manage and update the Alliance's social media channels and website content, ensuring consistent branding. Provide media relations support, maintaining media databases and responding to information requests. Facilitate knowledge management by contributing to best practices identification, organizing communication workshops, and exchanging information with relevant stakeholders.
Work Experience
Requires at least 4 years of progressive experience in communications, advocacy, media relations, public outreach, digital communications, and social media management. Experience in content production (press releases, articles, social media campaigns) and event support is essential. Proficiency in computer applications, web-based systems, and social media platforms is required. Experience with graphic design tools is desirable, as is experience with international organizations, NGOs, or in gender equality, human rights, or SGBV-related issues.
