Organizational Context
UN Women's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), through its Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) Unit, leads policy and programme development in areas of women's leadership and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. The unit supports peacebuilding, gender-responsive security sector reform, and emerging WPS priorities like climate and cybersecurity, applying an intersectional approach with a focus on inclusion and youth engagement.
Job Purpose
This International Consultant role supports the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific's Governance, Peace and Security Unit. The purpose is to provide technical expertise for developing new initiatives and projects in the region, aligning with UN Women's strategic goals and the WPS agenda. The role contributes to strengthening women's leadership, participation in decision-making, and advancing gender equality in peace and security contexts, including emerging areas like climate and cybersecurity.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for developing new Governance, Peace and Security initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region, including concept notes and project documents. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional developments on women's human rights, leadership, and WPS, integrating analysis into policy and advocacy. Support UN Country Teams and other mechanisms in strengthening analysis and reporting on gender equality and women's human rights. Develop non-traditional WPS programming, focusing on Women, Peace and Cybersecurity, and Climate, Peace and Security. Support the design, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of related programmes. Provide programme guidance and technical support to UN Women Country Offices. Coordinate events and joint initiatives with diverse stakeholders. Prepare briefing materials for senior management.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive work experience at national or international levels in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating Governance, Peace and Security programmes. Technical experience in programming, advisory, and advocacy with governments and civil society on gender and peace/security is essential, including on women's leadership and emerging issues. Experience with UN Women or other UN agencies and in the Asia Pacific region is preferred.
