The project "Securing Peace, Advancing Equality: Women, Peace and Security in the Indo-Pacific" supports defence institutions in integrating WPS. This role provides national-level support in Malaysia for project implementation, coordination with government and defence institutions, and continuity.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide sustained national-level support for the "Securing Peace, Advancing Equality: Women, Peace and Security in the Indo-Pacific" project in Malaysia. The role will facilitate effective country implementation by coordinating with government and defence institutions, contextualizing regional approaches, and ensuring project continuity. The consultant will contribute to project analysis, civil-military dialogue, applied learning, and outcome capture, aligning with national policy frameworks where feasible, focusing on practical implementation and institutional engagement rather than policy development.

This includes providing contextual analysis on institutional roles and sensitivities, and contributing to the preparation and follow-up of consultations and meetings. The role involves preparing short analytical notes and briefings. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to the preparation and facilitation of national civil-military dialogues and sensitisation sessions, offering advisory inputs on integrating WPS and gender-responsive approaches into civil-military cooperation and disaster response. The consultant will also contribute to outcome mapping, documentation, and knowledge capture for future training, ensuring continuity of institutional memory and stakeholder engagement.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience at the national or international level in gender equality, Women, Peace and Security (WPS), civil society cooperation, or related fields is required. Demonstrated experience engaging with government and defence institutions in Malaysia or Southeast Asia is essential. Familiarity with Malaysian civil society networks is also required. Experience in disaster response, climate security, or emerging security issues is an asset.
Skills
Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and solve problems proactively. Capacity to plan, prioritise, and deliver tasks on time. Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and maintain effective working relationships. Commitment to continual learning and knowledge sharing. Ability to research, analyse, and present complex information clearly.
