Job Purpose
This Media Analyst consultancy aims to strengthen UN Women's global media positioning and shape public narratives on gender equality, women's rights, and critical emerging topics like digital violence and AI. The role supports the media team in navigating complex media environments, managing reputational risks, and capitalizing on high-visibility moments. By providing media monitoring, analysis, and insights, the consultant will contribute to strategic decision-making and help position UN Women as a leading voice on gender equality in both digital and traditional media spaces.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct daily monitoring of global, regional, and national media, including digital and social platforms, to identify trends, narratives, and reputational risks. They will contribute to clear media analysis reports, highlighting key narratives, sentiment, and engagement opportunities, especially during major campaigns and crisis communications. The role involves tracking and analyzing social media conversations using tools like Meltwater to identify trends and influencers relevant to gender equality. Additionally, the consultant will build and maintain a global media contact database, support strategic storytelling by identifying compelling angles, and assist in the administrative management of media platforms and subscriptions, liaising with external vendors.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in media analysis, digital communications, or a related field. Essential experience includes a strong understanding of global media and social media landscapes, and proficiency with media monitoring and analytics tools. Familiarity with media distribution tools like Mailchimp is also needed. Experience in reputational monitoring and crisis communications, as well as working in an international environment, is desirable.
