Job Purpose
This role supports UN Women's responsibility as co-custodian of SDG Indicator 5.1.1, focusing on legal frameworks promoting equality and non-discrimination. The specialist will contribute to the human rights and non-discrimination team's work on eliminating discriminatory laws and promoting adherence to international standards and the rule of law. The position involves developing global statistical standards, producing analytical knowledge products, and advocating with member states to advance gender-responsive laws and measure progress towards gender equality.
Responsibilities
The Programme Management Specialist will coordinate SDG Indicator 5.1.1 programming, including leading biannual reporting preparations and data collection efforts. Responsibilities include providing technical advice on coding guidelines and producing knowledge products. The role involves overseeing the SDG Indicator 5.1.1 dataset, preparing data for future reporting cycles, and offering strategic technical advice on data collection and validation for new countries. Additionally, the specialist will update the constitutional law database, conduct legal research, and analyze surveys. Key duties also include delivering insights on legal developments for the dataset, drafting communications for governments and partners, and fostering stakeholder engagement and coordination in support of legal reform. Collaboration with UN partner agencies and advocacy groups is essential.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in public international law. Essential experience includes working on legal and policy frameworks related to SDG Indicator 5.1.1, managing data, and statistical expertise within international institutions. Experience in gender equality and women's empowerment is also required. Desirable experience includes working at an international financing institution, reviewing UN system programming on eliminating discriminatory laws, and international experience.
