Job Purpose
This role aims to manage and implement UN Women's regional programme on Gender and Green Transition in West and Central Africa. The Programme Specialist will advise countries on strategies to support gender-responsive climate action and enhance women's participation in the green economy. By collaborating with various stakeholders, the Specialist will ensure successful programme implementation, contributing to equitable benefits from the green transition for women and girls in the region, and addressing the impacts of climate change.
Responsibilities
The Programme Specialist will design and formulate strategies and programmes to support gender-responsive climate action and women's participation in the green economy. This includes managing the technical implementation of projects, formulating work plans and budgets, and overseeing reporting and monitoring. The role involves providing technical assistance and capacity development to national and regional stakeholders, leading the production of knowledge products, and advising governments and institutions on gender and green economy issues. Additionally, the Specialist will lead partnership development and resource mobilization efforts to advance gender-responsive climate action in West and Central Africa.
Work Experience
Requires at least 7 years of progressive experience in project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. At least 4 years of experience in formulating and implementing projects related to gender and climate change, green transition, or climate finance is necessary. Experience in strategic planning, policy advice, and liaising with government agencies and donors is essential. Experience in West and Central Africa and within the UN system is desirable.
