UN Women, as part of its 'Making Migration Safe for Women' program, is expanding its efforts in Senegal and West Africa. This initiative, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, aims to enhance the protection of migrant women's rights and promote gender-sensitive migration governance. Senegal is a key country for migration in West Africa, serving as a point of origin, transit, and destination.
Job Purpose
UN Women seeks a National Consultant to conduct a rapid assessment of migrant women's situation in Senegal and review existing policies, laws, and services. This role is crucial for gathering evidence to inform gender-responsive programming and services that address the specific needs, challenges, and vulnerabilities of migrant women. The findings will establish a baseline for the program's results framework, ensuring that migration governance is safe, orderly, and respects the rights of women throughout their migration journey.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a rapid assessment focusing on migrant women in Senegal. Key responsibilities include performing a documentary review of existing qualitative and quantitative data on migrant women's situations, conducting interviews with key stakeholders (UN agencies, government, civil society, migrant women's networks), and analyzing relevant policies, laws, and services from a gender perspective. The consultant will also identify synergies with national and sub-regional initiatives. Based on these findings, the consultant will draft a rapid assessment report with conclusions and concrete recommendations for strengthening gender-sensitive migration governance in Senegal and regional frameworks. The consultant will also develop a inception report detailing the methodology and work plan, and integrate feedback on draft reports before submitting the final version.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of proven experience and technical expertise in the links between gender and migration, including policy research and data analysis. Demonstrated experience in data analysis and preparing high-quality reports is essential. Experience in conducting stakeholder consultations and engaging with relevant networks and institutions is also required. Experience with UN Women or the UN system is an asset.
