UN Women in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is implementing a Joint Programme to counter hate speech and divisive narratives that undermine gender equality and social cohesion. This programme, funded by the UN Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund and implemented with UNESCO and UNDP, aims to strengthen institutional responses, promote gender-responsible media, and foster inclusive dialogue. The role supports innovative approaches using digital technologies and AI to detect and counter harmful narratives.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the Joint Programme "Partnerships for Equality: No to Hate Speech and Divisive Narratives in Bosnia and Herzegovina" by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat hate speech and harmful narratives. The expert will provide technical support for developing and applying AI-driven tools to monitor and identify gendered hate speech and misinformation in media and online platforms. The role will ensure that analytical insights from these tools inform programme interventions, strengthen media capacity, and promote responsible journalism, ultimately contributing to reduced spread of harmful narratives and enhanced social cohesion.
Responsibilities
The Artificial Intelligence Expert will coordinate and implement AI-supported monitoring and digital innovation activities, developing work plans and monitoring progress. They will facilitate collaboration with media organizations, research partners, and technology experts to ensure timely delivery of outputs. The role involves providing technical expertise on developing and piloting AI tools for hate speech detection, contributing to methodologies for monitoring trends, and advising on the ethical use of AI. The expert will also support the design and delivery of capacity-building sessions for journalists and media professionals on using AI tools, and contribute to knowledge products summarizing lessons learned. Analytical insights generated will be synthesized into actionable formats for programme partners.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of experience in artificial intelligence, data science, digital media analysis, or technology development. A minimum of 3 years of experience with digital monitoring tools, hate speech analysis, misinformation analysis, or AI-supported content analysis is necessary, preferably in media, research, or civil society contexts. Experience in designing and delivering training activities related to AI tools or digital media analysis is also required.
