This internship supports the Women's Economic Empowerment Team.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support UN Women's Women's Economic Empowerment Team in its regional work across West and Central Africa. The intern will contribute to research, knowledge product development, and coordination of capacity-building activities. The role is designed to provide the intern with enhanced knowledge of gender equality, women's economic empowerment, and development economics in Africa, while also developing practical skills in policy analysis, communication, and project support within a multicultural UN environment.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Women's Economic Empowerment Team by conducting targeted research and data collection on relevant subjects, sectors, and countries within the region. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of key knowledge and communication products, such as policy and advocacy briefs on topics like transforming care systems, gender and macroeconomic policy, and women's opportunities in the green economy. The intern will also provide editorial and translation assistance, draft project documents, meeting minutes, reports, and presentations, and offer coordination and logistical support for webinars and workshops. Participation in team activities and events is also expected.
Work Experience
While not strictly required, experience in women's economic empowerment issues is advantageous. Knowledge of development issues in Africa, particularly West and Central Africa, and familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 5, are considered a plus.
Skills
Demonstrable knowledge of feminist/gender economics; Knowledge of development issues in Africa; Excellent analytical skills in gender and development; Excellent drafting skills in English and French; Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom); Ability to work in a multicultural setting.
