The Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division (PPID) provides strategic support to achieve this, focusing on normative frameworks and integrated policy advice. The Intergovernmental Support Section leads engagement with intergovernmental bodies to strengthen global norms and policies on gender equality.
Job Purpose
This role leads UN Women's engagement with Member States and stakeholders to advance gender perspectives in intergovernmental processes, particularly concerning sustainable development, small island developing states, climate change, and biodiversity. The specialist develops engagement strategies, analyzes policy approaches, and drafts substantive papers to ensure gender equality is integrated into global discussions and outcomes. The position aims to strengthen the global normative framework for gender equality and contribute to UN Women's strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
Provide substantive and technical support for UN Women's engagement in intergovernmental processes, focusing on sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, and small island developing states. Develop engagement strategies and activities to advance the global normative framework for gender equality. Engage in intergovernmental meetings and negotiations, identifying key messages and proposing action points. Liaise with secretariats of intergovernmental bodies to ensure gender equality mainstreaming. Lead research and analysis on gender perspectives in environmental issues and sustainable development, drafting substantive papers and policy inputs. Strengthen partnerships with Member States, international organizations, and civil society. Contribute to strategic coherence and operational effectiveness by advising on integrating intergovernmental outcomes into programming and overseeing content development.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in analysis and policy guidance on sustainable development, climate change, and biodiversity issues. Experience with a UN organization is highly desirable. Required experience includes supporting intergovernmental negotiations, integrating gender perspectives into policy analysis, and drafting policy papers. Experience in partnership building and supporting intergovernmental bodies is desirable.
Skills
Substantive knowledge of intergovernmental processes and gender equality issues in sustainable development, climate change, and biodiversity. Ability to conceptualize and convey strategic vision. Strong relationship-building, communication, and networking skills. Proficiency in drafting policy papers and providing policy advice. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Good planning and prioritization skills.
