This role sits within the Strategic Planning Unit, supporting the organization's commitment to transparency and accountability through high-quality data reporting. The consultant will play a key role in transitioning UN Women's data systems to a new ERP, ensuring alignment with International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standards and the Transparency Portal.
Job Purpose
The Data Consultant will support UN Women's transition to a new ERP system (PRISM) by ensuring its data architecture aligns with International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standards and the Transparency Portal requirements. The primary goal is to enhance data quality, automate data flows, and maintain or improve UN Women's transparency performance. This involves reviewing data structures, identifying and rectifying data gaps, preparing datasets for reporting, and developing robust data transformation and validation processes. The consultant will collaborate with technical teams to establish automated data pipelines, contributing to improved data integrity, traceability, and auditability, ultimately strengthening partner trust and enabling evidence-based decision-making.
Responsibilities
The Data Consultant will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the new ERP system's data structure to ensure compliance with IATI standards and Transparency Portal Phase IV requirements, focusing on data points critical for the IATI transparency score. This includes identifying and addressing data gaps, inconsistencies, and necessary transformations to ensure data completeness, timeliness, and accuracy. The consultant will extract, clean, validate, and prepare datasets for reporting, documenting any manual interventions. Key tasks involve developing and documenting data transformation, validation, and quality assurance processes, and managing the design and implementation of data workflows within the new data model. Collaboration with technical teams to establish and optimize automated data pipelines from PRISM to IATI and the Transparency Portal is crucial. The role also includes contributing to data standards, performing quality assurance checks, analyzing reporting outputs for improvement opportunities, and providing troubleshooting support during the transition to automated processes.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in data management, data engineering, or data analytics. Proven experience with data extraction, cleaning, transformation, and validation is essential. Experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and supporting system/data architecture transitions is necessary. Strong SQL programming skills and proficiency in Python or R for data processing are required. Experience with automated data pipelines is also needed. Familiarity with international data standards like IATI and experience preparing data for external reporting platforms are highly desirable.
