Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to produce a comprehensive Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) for Sierra Leone. The CGEP will provide a detailed assessment of the current context, including progress and key challenges in achieving gender equality within the framework of sustainable development. It will identify gender discrepancies in the enjoyment of social, economic, cultural, and political rights, analyze the underlying root causes, and examine the effects on women and men, particularly vulnerable groups. The profile will also pinpoint gaps in research and data concerning gender equality, emphasizing the need for statistical data. The CGEP will serve as an analytical and operational document, offering an overview of opportunities to address identified gaps and inform evidence-driven advocacy and programming for national stakeholders, development partners, and the UN System.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) for Sierra Leone, reporting to the UN Women Sierra Leone Country Representative. This involves conducting an assessment with qualitative and quantitative data to produce a high-quality profile. Key tasks include identifying entry points and strategies to address gender gaps across sectors, developing an advocacy strategy, and proposing indicators for tracking progress. The consultant will identify research and data gaps, suggest recognized research bodies, and design an action plan to address these gaps. Additionally, the consultant will identify opportunities and promising practices to address gender gaps in social, economic, and political arenas, providing a comparative analysis of the situation of women and men and a gender perspective on poverty and sectoral priorities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, with proven experience in developing Country Gender Equality Profiles, is essential. Experience working with multi-stakeholder organizations (governments, NGOs, UN) is crucial. The role requires sound knowledge of international human rights and women's rights instruments, policy analysis, institutional capacity assessment, and multi-stakeholder coordination. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality analytical reports and facilitate consultative processes is necessary. Familiarity with Sierra Leone's socio-political and economic context is highly desirable.
