Organizational Context
UN Women Sierra Leone is recruiting a consultant to develop a Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP). This profile will assess progress and challenges in gender equality within Sierra Leone's sustainable development context. It will identify gender disparities in social, economic, cultural, and political rights, analyze root causes, and highlight data gaps. The CGEP will serve as an analytical and operational document to inform advocacy and programming.
Job Purpose
The consultant will conduct a comprehensive Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) for Sierra Leone. This involves assessing the current context, progress, and challenges in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment. The profile will identify gender discrepancies in social, economic, cultural, and political rights, analyze underlying causes, and examine the impact on vulnerable groups. A key objective is to identify research and data gaps related to gender equality, with a focus on statistical data needs. The CGEP will also propose strategies, entry points, and an action plan to address identified gaps and promote gender equality and women's empowerment across various sectors, serving as a crucial tool for evidence-driven advocacy and programming.
Responsibilities
Conduct a detailed assessment for the Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) in Sierra Leone, covering all districts and regions. This includes identifying variables, policies, programs, and socio-economic contexts related to Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (GEWE). Produce a high-quality CGEP using qualitative and quantitative data to support findings for various stakeholders. Identify entry points and strategies to address gender gaps across sectors, including developing an advocacy strategy and relevant indicators. Identify gaps in research and data concerning gender equality and propose solutions, including a list of research bodies and an action plan for data collection. Analyze the current situation of women and men, identifying gender discrepancies in rights and proposing promising practices. Provide a gender perspective on poverty and sectoral priorities, highlighting relevant gaps.
Work Experience
A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, with proven experience in developing Country Gender Equality Profiles. Experience working with multi-stakeholder organizations (governments, NGOs, UN) is essential. Sound knowledge of international human rights and women's rights standards is required. Experience in policy analysis, institutional capacity assessment, and multi-stakeholder coordination is necessary. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality analytical reports and facilitate consultative processes. Familiarity with Sierra Leone's socio-political and economic context is highly desirable.
