Organizational Context

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focuses on developing and managing activities within the country, supporting local governments and partners in implementing urban development agendas and addressing multidimensional urban poverty.

Job Purpose

The Information Assistant will support the implementation of UN-Habitat's Social Territories Program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This role is crucial for enhancing institutional capacity to produce, integrate, and utilize territorial evidence. The incumbent will contribute to actions that expand social participation, strengthen community belonging, and improve access to educational, cultural, and productive inclusion opportunities, ultimately supporting the project's objectives and UN-Habitat's broader mission of transforming cities into more inclusive, resilient, and equitable places.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and update information systems, databases, and digital records related to program activities. Collect, compile, validate, and analyze qualitative and quantitative information from various sources. Create and maintain information products such as dashboards, data visualizations, tables, charts, maps, briefs, and presentations. Monitor data quality and consistency, identifying and addressing gaps or discrepancies to ensure reliable program information. Produce regular analytical reports, summaries, and information briefs based on program data and external sources. Conduct research to gather information from public databases and official statistics to inform program activities. Organize and synthesize complex information into accessible formats for diverse audiences. Maintain standardized datasets, templates, and documentation for consistency and traceability. Prepare inputs for program reports, presentations, and other institutional documents, ensuring accuracy. Document meetings and activities, and participate in relevant forums as requested. Monitor assigned deliverables and maintain organized records of project activities and documentation.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in data analysis, report generation, information management for public policy, data visualization, and data collection/processing in Brazil is required. Previous experience working within the United Nations is considered desirable.

Skills

Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search tools. Desirable skills include programming languages (R or Python), GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS), data visualization tools, project management methodologies, and experience with GitHub or GitLab. Strong communication, teamwork, professionalism, and organizational skills are essential.
