Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), a leading global environmental authority, aims to promote sustainable development and sound environmental management. The Industry and Economy Division encourages decision-makers to adopt sustainable practices. This role sits within the Chemicals and Health Branch, specifically supporting GEF-funded projects focused on eliminating hazardous chemicals from supply chains and global monitoring of POPs and mercury.

Job Purpose

This consultancy supports UNEP's Chemicals and Health Branch in executing key GEF-funded programmes, specifically the Supply Chains Integrated Programme and the Global Monitoring of POPs and Mercury (GCPM). The consultant will be instrumental in developing and implementing comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies, designing impactful engagement activities, and fostering strategic partnerships. The role contributes to effective programme implementation by ensuring coherent and inclusive stakeholder participation, facilitating knowledge exchange, and promoting collaboration among diverse partners. Ultimately, the purpose is to enhance programme delivery and sustainability through robust stakeholder engagement and coordination, aligning with UNEP's mandate for global environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies, action plans, and frameworks for UNEP's Supply Chains Integrated Programme and GCPM, including support for regional and country projects. Design and facilitate high-impact stakeholder engagement activities such as consultations, workshops, and multi-stakeholder dialogues. Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships, networks, and coordination mechanisms to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange. Provide technical guidance on stakeholder engagement, coordinating with communications, knowledge management, and gender experts for inclusive programme implementation. Monitor and evaluate stakeholder engagement activities, document outcomes and lessons learned, and prepare reports and recommendations to improve programme delivery and participation. Support the organization of global and regional forums and events, including the annual Global Supply Chains Forum.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, programme coordination, or environmental management is required. Demonstrated experience in developing engagement strategies, facilitating consultations, and coordinating diverse partnerships is essential. Experience in chemicals and waste management, sustainable supply chains, or GEF-funded projects is highly desirable.
