Programme Analyst (Economist)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), based in Rio de Janeiro, focuses on developing and managing activities within Brazil. This role supports the Social Territories Program's second phase, aiming to reduce urban poverty.
Job Purpose
This Programme Analyst (Economist) role is crucial for supporting the implementation of UN-Habitat's Social Territories Program in Rio de Janeiro. The purpose is to provide economic and financial expertise to enhance institutional capacity in addressing multidimensional urban poverty. The role contributes to strengthening intersectoral strategies, promoting social participation, and improving access to opportunities by producing, integrating, and utilizing territorial evidence. The incumbent will collaborate with project teams to achieve objectives and organizational priorities, ensuring effective and sustainable urban development initiatives.
Responsibilities
Provide technical and managerial guidance for project implementation, focusing on economic and financial aspects. Conduct research and analysis on social, economic, and urban issues relevant to project objectives. Ensure technical activities are completed within established timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Plan and organize advocacy campaigns, events, trainings, workshops, and knowledge products. Participate in relevant meetings and conferences. Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks. Prepare progress reports, internal reports, and other project documentation. Uphold ethical principles and promote inclusive environments. Perform other assigned duties consistent with the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in economic data analysis within Brazil is required. Experience with economic indicators and official data is essential. Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating public policies is desirable. Previous experience working within the United Nations system is also considered an advantage.
Skills
Good computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Web search engines). Proficiency with technological tools and online platforms. Knowledge of project management methodologies. Professionalism, planning and organization, communication, and teamwork competencies are expected.
