The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Based in Rio de Janeiro, the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) focuses on implementing the Habitat Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals within Brazil, working with governments and local partners to address urban poverty and enhance community well-being.

Job Purpose

This role supports the UN-Habitat Social Territories Program in Rio de Janeiro by assisting with communication and outreach activities. The Communications Assistant will collaborate with project teams to enhance the visibility and impact of initiatives aimed at addressing multidimensional urban poverty. Key contributions include supporting event planning, content creation, dissemination of advocacy materials, and documenting project activities to foster community engagement and highlight achievements. The position is crucial for strengthening institutional capacity and promoting social participation within vulnerable communities.

Responsibilities

The Communications Assistant will support project implementation through various duties. This includes participating in the planning, production, and organization of events, workshops, and meetings, ensuring alignment with local needs. The role involves contributing to the development, production, and management of publications and communication content, adhering to established branding standards. Additionally, the assistant will disseminate corporate advocacy materials, document project activities through photography and video, and produce human-interest stories for various communication channels. Community mobilization, engagement with local stakeholders, and conducting field visits to gather information are also key responsibilities. The role also entails maintaining documentation systems and preparing reports.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in communications and advocacy within Brazil is required. Previous experience working with the United Nations is considered an advantage.

Skills

Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search tools. Knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable. Strong communication, planning, organization, and teamwork skills are essential. Ability to contribute to knowledge management and dissemination.
