Organizational Context

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focuses on developing and managing activities within the host country. This role supports the second phase of the Social Territories Program, aimed at addressing urban poverty.

Job Purpose

This role is crucial for the successful implementation of the Social Territories Program's second phase in Rio de Janeiro. The Local Manager will work closely with programme, operations, and project teams to achieve project objectives and UN-Habitat's organizational priorities. The purpose is to enhance institutional capacity, promote social participation, strengthen community belonging, and improve access to essential opportunities for vulnerable populations, thereby contributing to the transformation of cities into more inclusive, resilient, and dignified places for all residents.

Responsibilities

The Local Manager will support project implementation by actively identifying and engaging participating families, monitoring their involvement, and administering socioeconomic questionnaires. Key duties include organizing and executing community events, preparing progress reports on territorial activities, and developing strategies for comprehensive coverage. The role involves visiting and assisting selected families, promoting the program within communities, and participating in local meetings. Additionally, the manager will ensure technical activities meet quality standards, perform assigned administrative and operational duties, and uphold ethical principles, including respect for diversity and the promotion of inclusive environments.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in community mobilization, questionnaire application, and interviews within Brazil is required. Previous experience working with the United Nations is desirable. Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook is also necessary.
