Senior Logistics Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) provides critical support to the Gang Suppression Force, the UN Integrated Office in Haiti, the Haitian National Police, and the Haitian Armed Forces, as mandated by Security Council resolution 2793 (2025). UNSOH also delivers technical assistance to the Organization of American States. This Senior Logistics Officer role is based in Port-au-Prince within the Mission Support Center, reporting to the Chief, Service Delivery.
Job Purpose
The Senior Logistics Officer, P-5, is responsible for managing and coordinating comprehensive logistics services essential for UNSOH's operations and its client entities. This includes overseeing supply chain management, materials management, transportation, maintenance, contracts, communications, IT, engineering, and medical services. The role involves exercising managerial and supervisory control over all logistics support for field missions, developing and monitoring logistic support plans, and ensuring the resolution of urgent operational needs. The incumbent acts as a key liaison between field missions and Headquarters on logistics matters, ensuring efficient day-to-day support and planning for new or expanded operations, while also advising senior management on logistics strategy and resource allocation.
Responsibilities
The Senior Logistics Officer exercises managerial and supervisory control over all logistics support for current, future, or liquidating field missions. Key duties include developing, coordinating, and monitoring comprehensive logistic support plans, encompassing forecasting, supply schedules, and prioritization of requirements to address urgent operational needs. The role involves monitoring and coordinating multifunctional logistic requirements between UN Headquarters and field missions, and assisting in the development of logistics policies and procedures. The incumbent serves as the principal liaison for logistics matters, coordinates daily operations, and oversees planning and preparations for new field missions. Additionally, the role ensures logistics requirements consider gender-specific needs, advises senior management on logistics structures and staffing, leads technical survey missions, organizes logistics meetings, and manages integrated civilian-military mission support organizations.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in logistics operations (land or air transport, supply chain, materials management, etc.) within military, commercial, or international organizations is required. Essential experience includes handling complex logistical issues in a field mission environment and within the UN system or a comparable international organization. Experience managing large, multicultural teams and multiple clients at a country level is desirable.
