Organizational Context

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focuses on developing and managing activities within the country. This role supports the Social Territories Program, aimed at addressing multidimensional urban poverty in Rio de Janeiro.

Job Purpose

The Information Assistant will support the implementation of the Social Territories Program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by providing crucial data analysis and information management. This role is essential for enhancing institutional capacity to produce, integrate, and utilize territorial evidence. By collaborating with project teams, the assistant will contribute to activities that foster social participation, strengthen community belonging, and improve access to educational, cultural, and productive opportunities. The position directly supports the achievement of project objectives and UN-Habitat's organizational priorities in transforming cities into more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable places, ultimately contributing to the well-being of urban populations.

Responsibilities

The Information Assistant will collaborate on the elaboration and calculation of variables and indicators, and process and analyze data from public databases and statistics. Responsibilities include presenting data in various formats (tables, graphs, charts), and providing technical support for the collection, production, analysis, and management of data, information, and urban indicators. The role involves participating in and organizing capacity-building activities for UN-Habitat and government staff, contributing to technical teams with data analysis, evaluation, and monitoring, and preparing internal and partner reports. Additionally, the assistant will document project processes, methodologies, and outputs, maintain organized records, and ensure timely implementation of deliverables according to the work plan.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of experience is required in data analysis, report generation, information management for public policy, data visualization, and data collection, processing, and analysis within Brazil. Previous experience working with the United Nations is considered an advantage.

Skills

Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search tools. Good command of programming languages such as R or Python. GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) and data visualization tools are desirable. Knowledge of project management methodologies and experience with GitHub or GitLab are also desirable.
