Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focuses on developing and managing activities within the host country. This role supports the Social Territories Program, aiming to reduce urban poverty through enhanced institutional capacity and community engagement.
Job Purpose
The Data Analyst will support the implementation of the Social Territories Program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by providing crucial data analysis and information management. This role is essential for strengthening the municipality's strategy to address multidimensional urban poverty. The incumbent will enhance institutional capacity to produce, integrate, and utilize territorial evidence, thereby promoting social participation, community belonging, and improved access to educational, cultural, and productive opportunities. The position contributes directly to UN-Habitat's mandate of transforming cities into more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable places.
Responsibilities
The Data Analyst will be responsible for developing, calculating, and validating data variables and indicators. This includes extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases and statistics, presenting findings in various formats, and elaborating or supporting the creation of georeferenced information. The role involves revising documents related to spatial data, participating in and organizing capacity-building activities for staff, and providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management. Additionally, the Data Analyst will contribute to knowledge exchange, identify project risks, document processes, and ensure timely delivery of project outputs, adhering to UN-Habitat quality standards and ABNT guidelines for reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of experience in data analysis, report generation, public policy information, data visualization, and data collection/processing is required. Progressive experience in urban project/programmes within Brazil is also necessary. Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines. Knowledge of GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS). Competence in programming languages such as R or Python. Experience with data visualization tools and platforms. Familiarity with data collection platforms (KoboToolbox, ODK) and version control systems (GitHub, GitLab) is desirable. Knowledge of project management methodologies is also desirable.
