Trade Facilitation Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva seeks an intern for its Trade Facilitation Section. This unpaid, full-time internship, lasting three months with a possible extension, offers remote or in-person work. The intern will support UNCTAD's mission to enhance trade facilitation, particularly for developing countries.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in international trade facilitation. The intern will support the Trade Facilitation Section's research and technical assistance activities, focusing on improving cross-border clearance efficiency and promoting trade growth. The role involves contributing to economic research, data analysis, and the development of training materials and promotional products for UNCTAD's Empowerment Programme. This experience will enhance the intern's understanding of global trade dynamics and UN operations, offering valuable professional development under expert guidance.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist the Trade Facilitation Section in conducting economic, econometric, and statistical research and analysis on trade facilitation, customs, transit, and supply chain technologies. Responsibilities include preparing and standardizing training materials for the UNCTAD Empowerment Programme for National Trade Facilitation Committees, and creating digital and paper-based promotional products. The intern will also support the organization and delivery of workshops, prepare draft reports and documents, and provide substantive support for project preparation and management. Additionally, the intern will participate in team meetings and other section activities as required, ensuring adherence to UNCTAD's operational guidelines and security best practices.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a field closely related to trade facilitation, economics, or international development. The focus is on academic background and relevant coursework.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications, keen interest in the UN's work, commitment to UN Charter ideals, ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to understand differing opinions, fluency in English, and knowledge of an additional UN language (advantageous).
