Organizational Context

This Senior Nurse position is within the Medical Section of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), based in Beni. The role reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer or their designate, contributing to the mission's healthcare services.

Job Purpose

The Senior Nurse is responsible for overseeing daily clinical activities, managing medical supplies, and coordinating emergency medical coverage. This includes planning requisitions, liaising with pharmacy for contracts, and supporting the Chief Medical Officer in managing CASEVAC/MEDVEAC and mass casualty incidents. The role ensures timely and accurate medical record keeping in the EarthMed system, supports hospitalized patients, and facilitates medical support during evacuations. Additionally, the Senior Nurse develops outreach programs, organizes preventive care training, publishes public health bulletins, and ensures isolation centers are prepared for disease outbreaks. The position also involves conducting medical briefings, first aid, and BLS training, managing medical inventory, and assisting with telehealth projects and medical report preparation.

Responsibilities

Oversee daily clinical operations and emergency medical coverage, including weekends and holidays. Plan and requisition medical supplies and equipment, coordinating with the Pharmacy unit for essential contracts. Support the Chief Medical Officer in managing casualty evacuations (CASEVAC/MEDVEAC) and mass casualty incidents. Provide medical support and escort for patients during evacuations and repatriation, and ensure care for hospitalized patients. Maintain accurate and timely medical records in the EarthMed system for case management and clearances. Develop and implement logistic plans for satellite clinics and manage arrangements for deceased personnel. Create and deliver outreach programs, preventive medical care training, and public health awareness campaigns. Ensure isolation centers are equipped for disease outbreaks. Conduct medical briefings and first aid/BLS training for staff, and manage medical inventory distribution. Assist in verifying hospital bills and contract performance evaluations. Participate in telehealth projects and prepare monthly medical reports.

Work Experience

Requires at least 8 years of progressive experience in general nursing, including intensive care and health administration. Experience in clinical team management, medical evacuation coordination, mass casualty response, and medical inventory management is essential. Prior experience with database systems like EarthMed for medical records is required. Experience in hospital/clinic management and international organizations is desirable.
