Organizational Context

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), established in 1999, is the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster risk reduction efforts. Headquartered in Geneva with regional offices, UNDRR guides, monitors, and reports on the Sendai Framework implementation, catalysing global awareness and action. This role supports UNDRR's public web content quality and maintenance.

Job Purpose

This six-month assignment supports the quality, accessibility, and day-to-day maintenance of UNDRR's public web content. The Digital Content Assistant will ensure that key platforms like PreventionWeb and specific campaign sites, such as World Tsunami Awareness Day, are accurate, current, and effective. The role involves publishing, quality assurance, and content maintenance across UNDRR's digital presence, contributing to the organization's mission of reducing disaster risk and promoting awareness. The position requires meticulous attention to detail in managing web content, ensuring it meets editorial, metadata, and quality standards, and is accessible to a global audience.

Responsibilities

The Digital Content Assistant will be responsible for creating, updating, reviewing, and publishing web content across UNDRR websites, adhering to established editorial, metadata, and quality standards. This includes maintaining priority PreventionWeb pages by correcting outdated information, broken links, formatting issues, and missing metadata. The role also involves supporting World Tsunami Awareness Day through page building, content updates, and quality assurance for its campaign website and related UNDRR platforms. Additionally, the assistant will maintain and enhance web content for the STOP DISASTERS game's tsunami scenario, including instructions and resources. Improving webpage accessibility through practical checks and remediation, conducting cross-browser and cross-device quality assurance, and coordinating fixes are key duties. The role also supports consistent tagging, taxonomy, metadata, and asset management within Drupal 10, and contributes to structured content improvements.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of experience in web communications, digital content management, or a related field is required. Experience with content management systems like Drupal 10 or WordPress is essential. Experience in creating, reviewing, and maintaining accessible web content, web quality assurance, metadata, taxonomy, link checking, or digital asset management is desirable.
