Light Vehicle Driver
Organizational Context
This position is within the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), specifically at the Bamyan Field Office. The Light Vehicle Driver operates under the supervision of the Regional Administrative Officer and the Vehicle Technician, contributing to the mission's logistical support.
Job Purpose
The Light Vehicle Driver is responsible for safely transporting authorized personnel and delivering/collecting official mail, documents, and supplies within the Bamyan Field Office. This role also involves performing daily checks and minor repairs to ensure UNAMA vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition. Accurate record-keeping of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption is essential. The driver must adhere strictly to UN regulations, security directives, and convoy procedures, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of assigned vehicles. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with data collection and presentation for reporting and information sharing purposes.
Responsibilities
Safely operate UNAMA vehicles for personnel transportation. Deliver and collect official mail, documents, and supplies. Conduct daily checks and assist with the day-to-day maintenance of vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires. Perform minor vehicle repairs, such as changing flat tires. Ensure all assigned vehicles are fueled, clean, and roadworthy. Maintain accurate records of official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance. Report any vehicle damages or faults to the Transport Officer. Comply with UN rules and regulations regarding vehicle accident reporting and UNAMA security directives for road convoys. Perform other assigned duties, potentially including assisting with data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience driving armored vehicles is also required. Experience with the UN system or similar international organizations, and driving various vehicle makes and models, is desirable.
