Sanitation Engineer (Drainage Project)
Organizational Context
UN-Habitat's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) in Rio de Janeiro supports sustainable urban development in Brazil. This role supports a project in Belo Horizonte focused on improving municipal infrastructure and tools for social housing and urban planning in the Izidora neighborhood, an area with significant informal settlements and environmental challenges.
Job Purpose
The Sanitation Engineer (Drainage Project) will provide essential technical expertise to support the implementation of the "Urban Qualification in a Key Neighborhood of Belo Horizonte" project. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful development and execution of drainage and related infrastructure projects within the Izidora neighborhood. The purpose is to enable safe and sustainable access to community infrastructure and affordable housing for residents, contributing to the transformation of a vulnerable urban area into a more resilient and inclusive place, aligning with UN-Habitat's mandate and the New Urban Agenda.
Responsibilities
The Sanitation Engineer will analyze, review, and suggest adjustments to drainage projects, ensuring compatibility with sewage and water networks. Responsibilities include preparing technical reports and assessments, and refining technical drawings to meet quality standards. The role involves providing technical guidance to designers and engineers, collaborating on technical documents, and participating in team meetings. Additionally, the engineer will perform other technical support tasks as required, ensuring the efficient implementation of project activities and the proper management of technical information.
Work Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in sanitation engineering, specifically in drainage and sustainable urban drainage design, is required. Experience with nature-based solutions, design/work in informal settlements, and previous UN system experience are desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and web search engines is required. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is desirable. Strong professionalism, planning, organization, communication, and teamwork skills are essential. Knowledge of UN-Habitat processes and procedures is also important.
