Communication Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. This internship is within the UNEP Communication Division in Nairobi, supporting communications for the Climate Action Pillar and other key UNEP initiatives.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UNEP Communication Division's activities, particularly those related to the Climate Action Pillar. The intern will assist in coordinating and launching climate publications, distributing UNEP reports and campaigns, updating climate-related web content, and supporting the planning and execution of climate events and campaign activations. The role involves tracking communications outputs, contributing to reporting, preparing meeting notes, and potentially leading selected initiatives under supervision. The intern will also liaise with various UNEP communication teams to ensure timely delivery of products and may apply design skills to create presentations and social media assets.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the coordination and launch of climate publications, and assisting with the outreach and distribution of UNEP reports and campaigns to relevant audiences and networks. The intern will also be responsible for updating climate-related webpages to ensure accuracy and currency, and supporting the planning and delivery of climate-related events and campaign activations. Additional duties involve tracking communications outputs and deliverables for reporting purposes, preparing meeting notes, and following up on agreed actions. The role may also involve leading selected initiatives, liaising with editorial, multimedia, social media, and web teams, and applying design skills for communications materials.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree. A strong understanding of standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, is expected.
