Job Purpose
The Field Agent (Engineering/Architecture) is crucial for the successful implementation of the "Vida Nova no Morro" project in Niterói, Brazil. This role directly contributes to UN-Habitat's mandate of fostering sustainable urban development and improving living conditions in informal settlements. By conducting detailed architectural inspections, assessments, and technical diagnoses of dwellings, the agent provides essential data for policy development and interventions. The position supports the strengthening of municipal data systems and institutional capacities, ensuring that social housing policies are responsive to vulnerable populations and promote inclusive, resilient urban development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.
Responsibilities
The Field Agent will conduct on-site architectural inspections, assessments, and technical diagnoses of dwellings in informal settlements, ensuring data quality and adherence to protocols. Responsibilities include collecting and verifying data through measurements, photographs, and technical sketches, and supporting the creation of reports. The role involves facilitating communication with residents, contributing to fieldwork methodology strategies, and reporting any intercurrences or safety issues. Adherence to safety protocols, proper use of equipment, and timely completion of tasks are essential. The agent will also attend project meetings, participate in training, provide inputs for risk identification, and maintain professional relations with counterparts, ensuring all activities align with UN integrity and ethical standards.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in building inspection, assessment, residential construction, or housing improvement is required. Experience with technical assessments in vulnerable communities, social housing, or related fields in Brazil is also necessary. Prior experience with the UN System is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines. Knowledge of construction systems, building components, defects, housing conditions, habitability standards, building codes, and safety requirements. Ability to take measurements and prepare technical sketches. Attention to detail, data quality commitment, clear communication of technical information, strong interpersonal skills, professional ethics, ability to work in favelas and field environments, and compliance with safety protocols.
