Economic Affairs Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking an intern for its Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development (PCSD) Branch within the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes (ALDC). This is an unpaid, full-time internship, available remotely or in-person in Geneva, for a duration of three months.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in international development work at UNCTAD. The intern will support the PCSD Branch in implementing technical assistance programs focused on strengthening productive capacities in developing countries, particularly in areas like the Blue Economy and agricultural value chains. The role involves contributing to the development of productive capacities programs, collecting and synthesizing information for sectoral studies, and assisting in project proposal development for African countries and LDCs. This experience will enhance the intern's educational background and understanding of the UN's operational work in trade and development.
Responsibilities
Support the Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development (PCSD) Branch in implementing technical assistance to enhance productive capacities in developing countries. Assist in sector-specific initiatives, including the Blue Economy, agricultural value chains, and value addition strategies. Contribute to the preparation of Productive Capacities Development programs based on National Productive Capacities Gap Assessments. Collect and synthesize information to prepare summary notes for country-based and global sectoral studies. Support the development of project proposals aimed at fostering productive capacities in African countries, Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and other target regions. Adhere to all applicable UN rules, regulations, and directives. Provide copies of all materials prepared during the internship to the relevant departments.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Applicants must meet the specified educational criteria and be able to demonstrate computer literacy in standard software applications.
