Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) advises developing countries on low-carbon development and climate resilience. This role supports the Integrated Assessment for Article 6 (IAA6) project, funded by the European Commission, which aims to enhance countries' strategic engagement in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to simplify and adapt complex IAA6 project outputs into high-quality, plain-language communication and policy products. This includes developing policy briefs, country case studies, and content packages for factsheets and infographics. The goal is to enable wider dissemination of the IAA6 Approach and its early learnings to policymakers, technical experts, and stakeholders, supporting increased NDC ambition and long-term climate pathways. The specialist will work closely with the project team, graphic designer, and country focal points to ensure accurate and accessible communication.

Responsibilities

Develop high-quality, plain-language communication and policy products derived from the IAA6 documentation package. This includes simplifying content for key documents, creating executive summaries, and distilling key messages for non-technical readers. Draft 2-3 policy briefs focusing on the systemic coordination benefits of the IAA6 Approach for policymakers and technical experts. Develop public-facing country case studies highlighting practical applications, challenges, and successes from pilot implementations. Prepare content briefs for design, including key messages and structure for factsheets and infographics. Coordinate with country focal points and project partners to validate content, ensuring accuracy and adherence to communication protocols. Incorporate feedback and complete revisions for all deliverables.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 2 years with a Master's degree. Experience working with developing governments and international organizations is essential. Experience translating complex technical information into accessible communication products is also required.

Excellent analytical, writing, and editing skills. Ability to translate complex technical information into engaging and accessible communication products. Experience tailoring messages to technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborative work style. Ability to deliver quality outputs against deadlines. Familiarity with climate policy, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, NDCs, or related climate change topics is desirable. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
