Organizational Context
The International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) in Geneva, Switzerland, is established to investigate and prosecute serious international crimes in the Syrian Arab Republic. This internship is within the Information Systems Management Section, focusing on refining practices related to internet research, information governance, data protection, and data analysis.
Job Purpose
This six-month, full-time internship within the IIIM's Information Systems Management Section aims to support the mechanism's efforts in investigating and prosecuting serious international crimes in Syria. The intern will contribute to strengthening practices in internet research, information governance, data protection, and data analysis. Key objectives include researching methodologies, synthesizing literature, and assisting with tasks related to information management and data protection. The role involves conducting open-source research, analyzing issues related to the Syrian situation, and developing scripts to enhance information management workflows, ultimately contributing to the IIIM's operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Information Systems Management Section (ISMS) by assisting with internet research, information governance, data protection, and data analysis. Key duties include conducting targeted open-source research and analysis, and summarizing political, economic, social, technological, and legal issues pertinent to the Syrian situation. The role involves assisting with data analysis, automation, and script development to improve information management and research workflows. Additionally, the intern will research legal, policy, and operational aspects of data protection, privacy, and information governance, compiling findings into a final presentation for the IIIM. The intern must complete tasks accurately and on time, maintain confidentiality, and work both independently and collaboratively.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must possess a strong academic background in a relevant field. Desirable qualifications include demonstrated ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds and proficiency in standard software applications such as MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Teams.
