Communication Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the UN's voice for the environment, promoting sustainable development. The Industry and Economy Division (IED) focuses on the Green Economy Initiative. Within IED, the Finance and Economics Branch examines the interplay of economics, trade, and finance with the environment. The Economic and Fiscal Policy Unit (EFPU) specifically advises countries on green fiscal policies to support the Sustainable Development Goals.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the NZNP Global Platform within UNEP's Finance and Economics Branch. The role contributes to promoting sustainable development and the green economy by assisting with global events, outreach, and digital communications. The intern will help plan and coordinate events, manage stakeholder communications, disseminate newsletters, and maintain the platform's web presence. This position offers practical experience in international environmental policy and communications, supporting the delivery of Sustainable Development Goals through effective engagement and information sharing.
Responsibilities
Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of global and regional events, including preparing materials and managing contact lists. Assist with outreach activities, including preparing and disseminating newsletters, project updates, and announcements to stakeholders. Contribute to the development and management of the NZNP Global Platform's web presence by drafting and updating content, organizing resources, and maintaining accurate information. Collect and curate visual assets like photos and graphics, drafting captions and alternative text. Develop and edit communications materials, translating technical information into accessible content. Coordinate with partners to gather communications inputs and support joint promotion of activities. Assist in maintaining communications calendars and organizing assets. Support the design, editing, and dissemination of knowledge products. Track communications activities and engagement metrics to inform future efforts.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a demonstrated interest or experience in communications, digital content management, event coordination, website development, or stakeholder outreach is desirable. Experience in developing written or visual communications, managing web/social media content, supporting newsletters, or organizing events would be advantageous.
