Organizational Context

This Graphic Designer position is within the Conference Management Section (CMS) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), part of the UN Secretariat. The role is based at UN-House ESCWA and is for an expected duration of 4 months. The incumbent will report to the Assistant Document Management Officer.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide graphic design services to the Conference Management Section, ensuring the creation of unique, creative, and consistent visual outputs. The Graphic Designer will collaborate with clients to understand their needs, identify communication objectives, and develop design concepts. This includes producing camera-ready documents for printing, incorporating revisions, and preparing artwork for final review. The role requires efficient time management to meet all deadlines and a commitment to delivering high-quality design solutions that align with project requirements and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing unique, creative, and consistent visual outputs, and collaborating with clients to identify needs and communication objectives. The role involves developing design concepts, determining illustrative requirements, and producing camera-ready documents for printing. This includes incorporating author and editor changes, preparing approved artwork for final review, color separation, and printing. Tasks also involve scanning pictures, retouching images, redrawing charts, maps, tables, figures, and logos. The Graphic Designer must manage time efficiently to meet all deadlines, develop creative solutions, take ownership of responsibilities, and honor commitments. Reviewing final layouts and suggesting improvements is also a core duty.

Work Experience

A minimum of 13 years of professional experience in publication production is required. This experience should include desktop publishing, graphic design, and layout. Experience in areas such as computer animation, infographic design, printmaking, book illustration, art installation, and photography is desirable.

Skills

Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator) and Microsoft Office is required. Strong skills in graphic design, layout principles, and aesthetic design concepts are essential. The ability to develop creative solutions, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines is crucial. Excellent communication and client interaction skills are also necessary.
