The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Mitigation Branch, within the Climate Change Division, supports developing countries in achieving low-carbon development. This role sits within the Climate Change Division and Industry and Economy Division, providing financial support to the Chief of Administration.

Job Purpose

This role serves as a key financial focal point, providing strategic and operational financial management support to the Chief of Administration. The purpose is to ensure effective financial planning, monitoring, and utilization of resources across the Climate Change Division and Industry and Economy Division. The role supports management decision-making through financial analysis, ensures compliance with financial regulations, contributes to operational cost recovery, and provides timely responses to financial and administrative requests, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening internal controls.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include acting as a focal point for financial analysis and oversight, supporting financial planning, monitoring budget implementation, and preparing financial forecasts. The role involves supporting operational cost recovery, reviewing transactions for compliance with UN financial regulations and policies, and providing strategic financial advice. Coordination with various teams for effective financial management, identification of financial risks, and contribution to process improvements are also crucial. The role will also support financial planning, budget preparation, forecasting, year-end closure activities, and prepare financial analyses for audits and reporting.

Work Experience

A minimum of four years of progressive experience in financial management, budgeting, financial analysis, or programme finance is required. Experience in financial oversight, budget monitoring, operational cost recovery, compliance, and with ERP systems like Umoja is necessary. Experience advising senior management and contributing to financial planning is also required.
