Light Vehicle Driver
Organizational Context
This position is within the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), specifically located in the Tehran Liaison Office. The Light Vehicle Driver reports directly to the Head of the Tehran Liaison Office, playing a key role in supporting the mission's operational activities in the region.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Light Vehicle Driver role is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel, official mail, documents, and supplies. This involves operating UNAMA vehicles, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs to ensure roadworthiness, and meticulously recording trip details, mileage, and fuel consumption. The driver is responsible for maintaining vehicle cleanliness and functionality, adhering strictly to UN roles, regulations, and security directives, including those governing road missions and convoys. This role is crucial for the daily operational support and logistical functioning of the UNAMA Tehran Liaison Office, contributing to the mission's overall effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include safely driving UNAMA vehicles for personnel transport and delivering/collecting mail, documents, and supplies. The role involves assisting with the daily maintenance of vehicles, conducting regular checks of essential components (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires), and performing minor repairs such as changing flat tires. The driver must ensure all assigned vehicles are kept fueled, clean, and roadworthy. Accurate recording of all official trips, daily mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance activities is required. Reporting any vehicle damages or mechanical/electrical faults to the Transport Officer is essential. The driver must ensure strict compliance with UN regulations regarding accident reporting and adhere to UNAMA security directives and procedures for road missions and convoys. Performing other assigned duties is also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience driving armored vehicles is also required. Experience with the United Nations system or similar international organizations, and driving various makes and models of vehicles, are desirable.
