Organizational Context

The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva, is seeking interns to support the Humanitarian Networks and Partnership Week (HNPW) 2027. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in event planning and coordination within a global humanitarian context.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this internship is to provide direct support to the planning, organization, and implementation of the Humanitarian Networks and Partnership Week (HNPW) 2027 event in Geneva. Interns will assist OCHA staff in various aspects of event management, from logistical preparations and participant engagement to communication and post-event follow-up. This role contributes to the effective execution of a key humanitarian coordination event, fostering collaboration among diverse networks and partners. The experience gained will be invaluable for individuals pursuing careers in international affairs, humanitarian action, or event management.

Responsibilities

Interns will support the logistical preparation and coordination of HNPW 2027, including room allocations, scheduling, and liaison with UN conference services. Key duties involve assisting with event registration and participant management, outreach, database updates, and on-site support. Interns will also contribute to coordinating humanitarian networks and partnership meetings, supporting rapporteurs, collating inputs, and preparing summaries. They will aid in producing and communicating event materials such as agendas, concept notes, reports, and social media content. Furthermore, interns will help manage the event’s digital platforms, including the website and virtual meeting tools, and provide on-the-ground logistics and communications support during the event. Post-event responsibilities include compiling reports, drafting communications, analyzing feedback, and capturing lessons learned. Support may also extend to other ERS activities beyond HNPW.

Work Experience

Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desirable experience includes knowledge of event management tools/platforms and social media tools, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask and work under pressure.

Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). Event management tools/platform knowledge (desirable). Social media tools knowledge (desirable). Strong written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work with diverse partners. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure.
