Organizational Context
The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region (OSESG-GL) operates in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This office works to address the root causes of conflict and promote stability in eastern DRC and the wider Great Lakes region of Africa, aligning with the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework. The role supports the Program Manager.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in data analytics and visualization within the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region. The intern will contribute to optimizing statistical efficiency and quality by implementing data collection systems and analytical strategies. The role involves identifying trends, analyzing data, and supporting the development of reports and dashboards to inform management decisions. This position is crucial for enhancing the office's capacity to utilize data for effective decision-making and communication regarding regional peace and security initiatives. The internship is for six months, full-time, and unpaid, based in Addis Ababa.
Responsibilities
The intern will implement databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Responsibilities include contributing to the identification, analysis, and interpretation of trends and patterns using statistical methods. The role involves acquiring and cleaning data, maintaining databases, and implementing process improvements for data analytics tasks. The intern will assist in developing reports, dashboards, and other tools to summarize findings for management and track progress on data initiatives. Additionally, the intern will contribute to creating basic data visualization outputs, supporting project tasks, assisting with data collection and initial analysis, and reporting unresolved issues. Production of data products like reports or newsletters and gathering business requirements are also key duties.
