Public Information Intern
Organizational Context
The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region (OSESG-GL) is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It works to address the root causes of conflict and end recurring cycles of violence in eastern DRC and the Great Lakes Region, supporting national and regional commitments under the PSC Framework.
Job Purpose
This internship within the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region in Addis Ababa provides an opportunity to contribute to public information efforts. The intern will support the office's mandate by assisting in the creation and dissemination of various communication materials, including multimedia content, press releases, and presentations. This role aims to enhance the visibility of the office's work on peace, security, and development in the Great Lakes region, while offering the intern practical experience in public information and international relations within a UN context.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in drafting and editing content for public information materials such as press releases, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts. Responsibilities include preparing meetings, drafting minutes, and producing multimedia content like infographics, motion graphics, and short videos. The role also involves creating professional PowerPoint presentations showcasing the division's work, assisting in video production (shooting, editing, sound mixing), and supporting the organization and execution of publication launches and events. Additionally, the intern will conduct background research for public information materials and undertake assigned special projects.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is explicitly required for this internship. However, candidates should possess a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals. Practical experience in public information, communications, or related fields would be beneficial.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications, ability to draft and edit content, multimedia content creation (infographics, motion graphics, video editing), presentation development (PPT), research skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
