Associate Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Resident Coordinator System (RCS) supports countries in achieving the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. As part of a global reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCOs) are led by empowered Resident Coordinators. The Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO) oversees the RCS, adapting to UN 2.0 shifts. This role is within the UN RCO in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist will implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This involves analyzing trends, cleaning data, and developing monitoring and evaluation products for UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks. The role supports the creation of digital tools and dashboards for tracking SDG progress, contributes to reports and visualizations for management, and assists in capacity-building initiatives for data analytics. The position aims to enhance data-driven decision-making and reporting within the UN system at the country level, collaborating with national partners and UN agencies.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods, acquiring and cleaning data from various sources. Develop monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) products for UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks. Co-design digital tools and dashboards with national statistical partners to track SDG progress. Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to convey findings to management. Track and report on data initiatives, and assist with project tasks including data collection and initial analysis. Support the integration of monitoring milestones into data pipelines and contribute to UNCT statistical capacity-building. Compile data insights, develop supporting materials for stakeholder communications, and stay updated on data analytics best practices. Assist in outcome-level analysis, contribution/attribution studies, and identifying gaps in national statistical systems. Contribute to data preparation for model assessments and build capacity in data analytics through training and workshops.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, knowledge management, or project management within development cooperation is required. Experience in data manipulation, analysis, visualization, and reporting is essential. Experience in quality assurance of data analysis outputs, data validation, and translating business requirements into technical solutions is desirable.
