Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks an Economist to support research on the ESCWA Skills Monitor, labor markets, and economic growth. This role is based at UN HOUSE - UN ESCWA in Beirut for an expected duration of 4 months, contributing to the 'Future of Work' project.
Job Purpose
This position aims to contribute to research on the ESCWA Skills Monitor, labor markets, and economic growth, addressing challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The role will support ESCWA member states in adapting to evolving job markets and skill demands driven by technological advancements. The objective is to help countries harness emerging job opportunities and mitigate challenges, aligning with SDG 8 targets for sustainable economic growth, productivity, full employment, and decent work. The Economist will assist in assessing the future of work, analyzing data, and providing economic insights to member states.
Responsibilities
Conduct substantive research on the 'Future of Work' project, including literature reviews and background analysis. Update monthly economic analyses of the Skills Monitor results, including detailed interpretation. Perform data analysis using ESCWA Skills Monitor data and information from various government hubs and country profiles. Provide economic analysis for technical assistance to countries. Conduct skills gap assessments. Assist in providing technical assistance to Arab countries, which includes developing concept notes, training materials, and country-specific policy research.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of experience in economics, social science, statistics, or a related field is required. Experience in machine learning, household surveys, firm-level surveys, and Big Data analysis is desirable. Proven experience in economic data analysis, presentation, drafting, and visualization is also desirable.
